German Contributions to Automotive World in Past History

The automobile owes a lot to Germany. In fact the automobile was first invented in Germany by a man named Karl Benz. The automobile gained a little power when Nikolaus Otto, also from Germany, later developed the four-stroke internal combustion engine. This invention helped burn fuel into a piston chamber; his concept of a four strokes and compression of the fuel mixture before ignition had been invented earlier and patented by another individual, but Nikolaus was the first to make this concept usable and practical. This first development by Otto began as a stationary engine, which later was adapted to become the automobile engine, involving the downward intake stroke, where a coal-gas combination mixed with air enters a piston chamber, followed by an upward compression stroke where the piston compresses the mixture, then a downward power stroke which ignites the fuel combination and an upward exhaust which releases the gas buildup from the piston mixture.
These early inventions are not what made Germany famous however.

High Performance Sports Vehicles

Germany is most famous for the development of high performance, high quality sports vehicles. These include vehicles like the Porsche, whose headquarters are located in Zuffenhausen, Stuutgart and Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany.
Other popular high-quality cars include the Mercedes-Benz, which are famous for their quality and safety as well as technological innovation. The Mercedes-Benz company was first created from the Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft company, created in 1926. This company bought the American company Chrysler.

Even More Famous German Contributions

Why are high performance vehicles so popular? Perhaps because they lend an air of prestige, perhaps stature. One of the most infamous of German Car Companies is the VW or Volkswagen, a car with a distinctive personality because of its many different outstanding shapes and sizes. Most famous of all is the beetle designed VW, which was created as an economically designed car for the people, with an engine placed in the rear of the car. The car, initially designed on order by Adolf Hitler, was one of many produced by the German carmaker who produced some of the most and most notable cars in history. In fact, VW is and remains one of the largest automobile companies even today.
