Competition Cars and the 20s

Bugatti Type 35C 1926
The 1920s brought many engineering innovations to the world of cars. However, many of these innovations were not tested on regular road cars. Instead, these innovations were tested in race car models and then adapted to road cars. Some of these innovations were multiple valves and spark plugs per cylinder and front-wheel drive.

Here are some of the more popular models of the time:

1) Mercedes-Benz Type S - This car was designed by Ferdinand Porsche in Germany. It could reach speeds of 106mpg and had a straight-six engine. It also featured a supercharger when the throttle was pushed all the way down.

2) Alpha Romeo P2 1924 - This model was the first car to win the Grand Prix Championship in 1925 for car manufacturers. Designed in Italy by Vittorio Jano, the car used a straight-eight and could reach speeds of up to 123 miles per hour.

3) Bugatti Type 35C 1926 - With its origin in France, using a straight-eight, and reaching speeds of 125 miles per hour, the Bugatti Type 35C was the company's most successful racer. It won more than 1000 races in its career, including the 1926 Gran Premio di Milano in Italy.
