Rolls-Royce - The Best Things

The Best Things List, that is what Rolls-Royce motor cars were  known to be a part of. Indeed, Rolls-Royce were known for the company's focus on quality and reliability. Let's learn more about how this Brand was formed.

Rolls-Royce was formed from the partnership of Frederick Henry Royce and Charles Stewart Rolls. On one hand, Royce was the founder of an electrical manufacturing business and developed his first car in 1904. On the other, Rolls was a business man who set up the a motor dealership. When the two men met, they agreed that Royce would develop cars that Rolls would then sell, under the Rolls- Royce name.

Within a few years, Rolls-Royce's cars were known for their reliability. One of such cars was the Silver Ghost and Phantom model. In 1930, Rolls-Royce bought the Bentley company. In 1971, the Rolls Royce company was forced into bankruptcy, in part because of the development of the RB211 jet engine, became natiolised, and was acquired by Vickers in 1980.

In 1998, Vickers sold Rolls-Royce Motors to the Volkswagen Group but this didn't include the rights of the Rolls-Royce brand name and logo, which was controlled by another company. Ironically, the company who controlled the brand name decided to license it to BMW.
