The 1920s and the Middle Class

World War I brought a tough recession in many places of the world. However, the twenties were also a period of luxurious cars for those could afford it, in both the United States in Europe. Furthermore, the 1920s was also a time where movie stars turned into rich individuals and could afford the latest and most opulent cars. 

Some of these prestigious cars include the Lincoln L Sedan of 1922 and the Rolls-Royce Phanton I of 1925 at the high end of the line. A bit more affordable but still stylish were the Ford Model T roadster, the Stanley model 735 of 1920, the La Salle Model 303 of 1927, and the Chevrolet Superior Coupe of 1925.

But even despite the difficulties for the Middle Class, it slowly became more and more common for the average American to drive a car. High-volume product helped bring down prices and contributed greatly to the expanding market of the car, both in the United States and in Europe; although, the US market would focus on great engines compared to the European market. Here are some of the most popular middle class cars:

1) Dodge 4 - 1914: The Dodge 4 operated on a straight-four and could reach speeds of 80miles per hour. Thanks to its rugged structure, Dodge was able to grow substantially until it became the second best selling US brand after Ford.

2) Chrysler G70 - 1924: The G70 could reach 70 miles per hour using a straight-six engine. With its help, Chrysler was able to reach the top spots of car sells in the United States.

3) Fiat 509A - 1926 - The Fiat 509A sold over 90K unites in about four years. It was sold with the option of installment payments. It could reach speeds of 58mph on a straight four engine.

Indeed, the 1920s brought into the public the ability buy afford a car.
